This SFRM fireproofing adaptive component for Revit provides a flexible solution for wrapping structural steel members in projects. Engineered as an adaptive family for Autodesk Revit, this component is designed to wrap around standard structural steel profiles, simulating Spray-Applied Fire-Resistive Material (SFRM). The geometry is defined by adaptive points that allow the user to snap the fireproofing layer directly to the host beam or column edges within the structural model. The finish represents a typical cementitious or mineral-fibre coating, rendered in a neutral matte grey. Its adaptive nature ensures consistent coverage across varying member lengths and complex steel junctions, providing a clean, technical representation of fire-rated structural assemblies.
The download is a 512 KB file containing a Revit family (.rfa). Load it into a project from the Insert tab with Load Family, then place it like any other component of its category; it schedules and tags with the rest of your model.
To integrate this into a Revit project, load the family into the host structural model and use the adaptive points to trace the perimeter of the steel members. The component is designed to be placed in the Massing or Adaptive Component environment, allowing for precise snapping to reference lines or structural framing hosts. Once placed, the thickness can be adjusted through instance parameters to align with specific hourly fire-rating requirements for your structural steel schedule.
This asset is essential for BIM coordinators and structural engineers working on projects where accurate fire-rating visualization is required for coordination. It is particularly useful for complex industrial buildings, high-rise commercial steel frames, or any project requiring detailed clash detection and fire-protection documentation. By applying this to structural steel, professionals can effectively communicate fire-safety strategies during design development and construction documentation phases, ensuring that all beams and columns are appropriately protected and represented in the final coordination model.
