Japanese Zen Garden Sand Tray with Bonsai Trees

This 3ds Max Zen garden set features a linear sand tray with raked patterns, natural stone accents, and two distinct bonsai trees. This decorative Zen garden assembly comprises a long, rectangular sand tray finished with a dark wooden frame and a secondary square section at one end. The sand surface is detailed with traditional concentric raked patterns, punctuated by scattered, weathered grey stones that mimic natural rock formations. Two mature bonsai trees are integrated into the design: one smaller specimen housed within the square end-tray and a larger, more sprawling tree anchored at the opposite end of the main linear channel. The composition balances organic textures with clean, minimalist geometric lines typical of meditative Japanese interior elements.

The download is a 47 MB compressed archive containing the native 3ds Max (.max) model, set up with Corona materials. Open it in 3ds Max with Corona installed; for other programs, export to FBX or OBJ from 3ds Max first.

When integrating this model into 3ds Max, manage the foliage density through instance proxies to maintain viewport performance. The sand texture relies on clear displacement or normal mapping to capture the raked pattern detail; ensure these maps are linked correctly in the material editor. The model is structured with distinct objects for the tray, rocks, and trees, allowing for individual placement or adjustment of the foliage scale to better suit specific interior compositions and lighting setups within the scene.

This Zen garden asset is intended for high-end residential projects, tranquil office break-out spaces, or luxury hotel lobbies where a focal point of calm is required. It pairs effectively with minimalist furniture, low-profile seating, and natural timber finishes. Architects and visualisers searching for meditative interior decor, Japanese-inspired accessories, or architectural feature elements will find this set suitable for establishing a serene atmosphere in contemporary or wabi-sabi themed design schemes, particularly in entrance halls and reception areas.
