About this asset

This equirectangular HDR environment map provides realistic natural lighting for 3D scenes, featuring a frozen river at sunrise. The environment map captures a crisp, bright winter morning over a frozen river, characterized by high-contrast natural light and long, soft shadows across the snow-covered terrain. The scene includes a distant bridge and a line of bare trees, providing a naturalistic backdrop for exterior architectural visualisations. The lighting setup is defined by a low-angle sun, which introduces a cool blue sky gradient and warm highlights on the snow surface. The overall composition is balanced, offering a clear perspective that integrates well with various 3D assets, maintaining consistent lighting and reflection properties throughout.

The download is a 5.6 MB file containing a 2K equirectangular high-dynamic-range environment map, ready to load as dome or world lighting in Blender, 3ds Max, SketchUp renderers, Unreal Engine and D5.

To implement this HDRI in your rendering engine, load the file into the environment or world lighting slot of your software. The equirectangular projection ensures seamless mapping onto the background dome. Adjust the intensity and rotation to align the sun position with your model's orientation, ensuring that the shadows and reflections match the scene's primary light sources. For optimal results, use this map as the primary light source to drive global illumination and realistic specular reflections on glass or metallic surfaces.

This environment is suitable for exterior architectural renders, landscape design visualisations, and urban planning presentations that require a seasonal winter context. It is particularly effective for projects featuring modern residential or public infrastructure near water bodies. Professionals often search for winter-themed lighting environments to convey a specific atmospheric quality in their visualisations. Pair this map with snow-covered terrain assets and bare-branch vegetation to achieve a cohesive, photorealistic winter scene that enhances the depth and realism of your final architectural images.
