About this asset

This 2K equirectangular HDRI environment map captures a soft, overcast lakeside scene featuring a timber deck and distant hills. The environment map provides a high-dynamic-range representation of a calm, overcast day at Shudu Lake. The scene is dominated by a expansive, weathered timber boardwalk that curves around the shoreline, leading the eye toward the water and the rolling hills beyond. The lighting is diffused and cool, characteristic of a cloudy midday sky, which eliminates harsh shadows and promotes realistic, soft contact lighting on 3D objects. This environment captures the natural, muted tones of the landscape, including the dark brown of the wet wood decking and the subtle greens of the distant terrain.

The download is a 6.2 MB file containing a 2K equirectangular high-dynamic-range environment map, ready to load as dome or world lighting in Blender, 3ds Max, SketchUp renderers, Unreal Engine and D5.

To integrate this environment into a rendering pipeline, load the.hdr file into the world environment or dome light slot of your chosen engine. Because the lighting is overcast, it provides excellent global illumination for exterior scenes without requiring additional sunlight sources. Adjust the exposure and rotation to align the light direction with your project's camera angle. The 2K resolution is sufficient for background reflections and ambient light contribution, ensuring efficient performance while maintaining high visual fidelity in your final output.

This HDRI is ideal for architectural exterior visualisations, particularly those requiring a tranquil, natural setting with a focus on landscape design or waterfront hospitality projects. It pairs well with contemporary wooden decking, outdoor furniture, or cabin-style architecture. Professionals will find this map useful during the design development or presentation stages when a neutral, overcast lighting setup is needed to showcase building materials without the distraction of high-contrast sun shadows. It is a versatile choice for any project situated in mountainous or rural environments.
