About this asset

This equirectangular HDRI environment map provides soft, overcast lighting for 3D scenes featuring an abandoned concrete waterworks. The environment map captures an expansive, desolate industrial site characterised by cracked, moss-covered concrete foundations. A dense, overgrown tree line forms the perimeter, creating a natural, muted backdrop. The lighting is consistently soft and diffused, typical of a heavily overcast sky, which eliminates harsh shadows and high-contrast highlights. This neutral illumination makes it highly versatile for architectural visualisations that require a realistic, weathered outdoor setting. The panoramic capture includes a full 360-degree field of view, ensuring seamless integration for reflections and ambient light contributions in rendering engines.

The download is a 6.3 MB file containing a 2K equirectangular high-dynamic-range environment map, ready to load as dome or world lighting in Blender, 3ds Max, SketchUp renderers, Unreal Engine and D5.

To use this HDRI, load the file into the environment or background slot of your rendering software. Adjust the rotation to align the light source with your scene's primary orientation. Because the lighting is diffuse, it is ideal for balancing with additional artificial fill lights or local spotlights. Ensure your render settings are configured for high-dynamic-range input to take full advantage of the luminosity data provided within the file for accurate ambient occlusion and global illumination.

This environment is essential for visualising post-industrial, derelict, or abandoned architectural projects. It pairs effectively with weathered concrete, rusted metal, or dilapidated brick structures, providing a credible context for landscape design or environmental impact studies. Professionals will find this useful when rendering scenes that require a sombre, moody, or naturalistic exterior atmosphere. It is particularly suited for exterior shots where a soft, non-directional light quality is needed to highlight texture details without being overwhelmed by intense sun-path glare.
