Laufenburg Church Night Square HDRI Environment

This 2K HDR environment map captures a moonlit European church square at night, providing authentic illumination for 3D renders. The environment features a historic church building set within a stone-paved square at night. The scene is dominated by a clear, dark sky with a visible moon, creating a cool ambient atmosphere. This is contrasted by warm, artificial light sources from streetlamps that cast soft glows on the surrounding masonry and foliage. The composition includes a stone retaining wall and a public seating area, offering a realistic perspective of a traditional European town square during the night hours. The dynamic range provides depth to the shadows and highlights across the architecture.

The download is a 6.5 MB file containing a 2K equirectangular high-dynamic-range environment map, ready to load as dome or world lighting in Blender, 3ds Max, SketchUp renderers, Unreal Engine and D5.

Load this.hdr file into the background or environment lighting slot of any major rendering engine. Because it is an equirectangular projection, it will map seamlessly onto the world sphere. Use the rotation settings in your software to align the primary light source with your scene's intended focal point. Adjust the exposure and gamma settings within your renderer's environment tab to balance the contrast between the cool moonlight and the warm artificial street lighting for a natural night-time aesthetic.

This environment map is ideal for exterior architectural visualisations requiring a realistic night-time setting. It works exceptionally well for residential or urban design projects that feature outdoor terraces, plazas, or historical building contexts. Designers can use this to create high-contrast, atmospheric renders that benefit from the combination of natural moonlight and localized artificial lighting. It pairs effectively with scenes containing stone textures and warm interior light spills from windows, helping to anchor the building within a believable, quiet, and serene late-evening environment.
