Hilltop City Overcast HDRI Environment Map

This equirectangular HDRI environment map provides realistic overcast midday lighting for 3D scenes with a hilltop city view. The environment map captures a wide-angle, 360-degree panoramic view from a rocky hilltop overlooking a distant urban landscape. The foreground is dominated by natural terrain, featuring scattered stones, exposed earth, and low-lying vegetation. In the middle distance, the terrain slopes downwards, punctuated by patches of shrubs and trees, while the far horizon reveals a sprawling city. Tall radio towers are visible on the left side of the panorama. The lighting is characterized by a soft, diffuse overcast sky, which eliminates harsh shadows and provides a neutral, even illumination suitable for architectural rendering.

The download is a 5.9 MB file containing a 2K equirectangular high-dynamic-range environment map, ready to load as dome or world lighting in Blender, 3ds Max, SketchUp renderers, Unreal Engine and D5.

To implement this HDRI, load the file into the environment slot of your chosen rendering engine, such as V-Ray, Corona, or Octane. Because the map contains high dynamic range data, it will automatically drive the scene's global illumination and reflections. Adjust the rotation to align the light source with your camera's perspective and tune the exposure value to match the desired brightness of your interior or exterior scene. The equirectangular projection ensures seamless mapping onto the background sphere.

This environment map is ideal for exterior architectural visualizations requiring a natural, diffused lighting condition. It works effectively for residential or urban design projects where a realistic, non-sunlit backdrop is needed to ground the model. The soft, overcast light is particularly useful for highlighting material textures without the interference of strong directional sun shadows. Professionals looking for a balanced, neutral outdoor lighting setup for site analysis or conceptual massing studies will find this asset a versatile addition to their rendering library.
