About this asset

This 360-degree HDRI environment map provides realistic, soft overcast lighting and a hilltop perspective of a distant city. The environment map captures a panoramic hilltop vista featuring a rugged, earthen foreground with scattered low-lying vegetation and natural rock formations. Two steel radio towers dominate the immediate horizon, providing structural verticality against the expansive, cloudy sky. The backdrop reveals an urban sprawl stretching toward the horizon, rendered in muted, natural tones. The composition provides a neutral, balanced backdrop that integrates seamlessly into architectural visualisations, offering both a believable background and accurate ambient light data.

The download is a 6.2 MB file containing a 2K equirectangular high-dynamic-range environment map, ready to load as dome or world lighting in Blender, 3ds Max, SketchUp renderers, Unreal Engine and D5.

Load this.hdr file into your rendering engine's environment or world lighting slot to establish global illumination and background reflections. Adjust the exposure and rotation settings within your software to align the light source with your scene's primary focal point. Because the lighting is overcast, it produces soft, even shadows, making it ideal for exterior architectural renders where harsh sunlight is not desired. Scaling is handled automatically by the software's environment mapping coordinates, ensuring correct spherical projection across your scene.

This environment map is suited for residential exterior visualisations, urban planning projects, and landscape design presentations. It is particularly effective for scenes set in semi-arid or hilly environments where a sense of elevation and distance is required. Professionals often search for hilltop views, city skylines, or overcast outdoor lighting to ground their projects in a specific, realistic context. It pairs well with modern or vernacular architecture, providing a subtle, non-distracting background that allows the primary building design to remain the central focus.
