Featuring integrated cabinetry below an ascending stepped profile, this Japanese tansu stair storage cabinet is modelled as a native Revit family. The fixture follows the traditional kaidan tansu silhouette, integrating stepped stair treads over multi-tier storage compartments. An ascending stair profile steps up from left to right, with bullnose edge detailing along the individual treads. Below the steps, the unit incorporates an asymmetric arrangement of arched panel doors, open intermediate shelving slots, and multiple rectangular drawer faces. Side panels enclose the tall vertical return, creating a self-contained casework block designed to function simultaneously as access steps and substantial built-in millwork storage.
The download is a 358 KB file containing a Revit family (.rfa). Load it into a project from the Insert tab with Load Family, then place it like any other component of its category; it schedules and tags with the rest of your model.
Delivered as a lightweight RFA component, the unit loads directly into Revit projects as furniture or casework. Users can place the freestanding element along interior walls or beneath mezzanine access points. Model materials can be overridden within the type properties or through object styles to assign appropriate timber grains, painted finishes, or contrasting tread surfaces for realistic orthographic elevations and renderings.
This functional casework piece is suited for compact residential schemes, loft apartments, tiny homes, and Japanese-inspired hospitality interiors. Interior designers and space planners frequently integrate step chests when solving vertical circulation to sleeping lofts, bunk beds, or storage platforms while retaining usable drawer and cupboard space below. The family coordinates well with minimalist tatami rooms, timber screen partitions, and modern joinery layouts in concept and detailed design phases.
