Late-nineties institutional towers are the hardest things to save. They’re not old enough for anyone to feel sentimental about, but the interior layouts from that era are notoriously rigid and the building systems are completely shot. Most campuses would have flattened a 1999 mixed-use high-rise like this without a second thought. Seeing YUARCHITECTS do the unglamorous surgical work to keep it functioning as a genuine social gateway is worth paying attention to. https://www.archdaily.com/1041668/renovation-of-bit-international-education-communication-center-yuarchitects
