The 15mm slot drain outside the drop-off has a blue plastic vegetable strainer wedged into the intake. Maintenance put it there. The mahogany pods drop every monsoon, wedge flat across the stainless steel gap, and back up twenty metres of paving in five minutes. Three revisions on the detail to make the drainage line completely invisible against the bush-hammered granite. The strainer cost two dollars at the wet market.

That blue strainer is doing more honest hydraulic work than the custom extrusion package ever could. Brilliant reminder of what happens the moment local foliage meets our minimal tolerances.

Love the honesty of this. We spend weeks obsessing over an invisible 15mm shadow line, and the whole system gets completely undone by the exact geometry of the local seed pods.

Love this—the caretakers always end up finishing our details for us in the end. Designing a flush 15mm slot right under a canopy that drops flat pods is pure optimism over biology.
