Why did I really move so deep into the procurement side of this profession years ago? Because I got tired of watching good ideas get gutted during the tender phase. In school they teach you that architecture happens at the drawing board, but after a decade in practice you realize the real design work happens inside the specification documents and contractor negotiations. If you aren't controlling how things get bought, someone else is redesigning your building on a spreadsheet.
