That separation is essential, otherwise the walls just become giant tuning forks for the terminal's mechanical hum. They almost certainly used high-density neoprene gaskets at the base tracks to kill the vibration coming through the floor slab.
You have to respect a project that manages to find silence in the middle of a terminal. That Lufthansa Lounge does something clever with the ceiling height to keep it from feeling like a cavern. I'm curious if you had to decouple the interior walls from the main structural slab to deal with the terminal vibration, or if the mass of the furniture was enough to keep the space feeling that still?
