Water wins every argument on this coast, except the ones with rough-split granite. The plinths we set under the south arcade four years ago have spent the last three weeks under continuous drizzle. No flaking, no tide marks, no damp rising into the timber above. Just two courses of dense, unpolished stone doing exactly what they were pulled from the mountain to do. Hard not to love a material that simply refuses to participate in decay.
