About this asset

This equirectangular HDRI environment map provides soft, diffused overcast sky lighting for realistic architectural rendering. The environment map features a uniform, high-density cloud layer covering the entire dome, resulting in low-contrast, shadowless illumination. The horizon line is clean and neutral, transitioning from a darker grey cloud deck into a slightly lighter, desaturated band. This absence of direct sunlight makes it an ideal choice for simulating gloomy or temperate weather conditions. The asset is captured in a full 360-degree equirectangular format, ensuring seamless spherical mapping without visible seams or distortion, maintaining consistent ambient light intensity across all directions for a balanced and professional look in final renders.

The download is a 4.4 MB file containing a 2K equirectangular high-dynamic-range environment map, ready to load as dome or world lighting in Blender, 3ds Max, SketchUp renderers, Unreal Engine and D5.

To integrate this environment map, load the.hdr file directly into the environment slot of your rendering engine's world or dome light settings. Adjust the rotation parameter to align the horizon as needed for your specific camera angle. Since the lighting is naturally soft and diffused, you may not require additional fill lights, though increasing the exposure value slightly can help compensate for the low-contrast nature of the overcast sky during final scene composition.

This HDRI is particularly effective for exterior architectural visualisations, especially when depicting sites in temperate or northern climates. It works well for projects requiring an even, moody atmosphere, such as residential developments or hospitality concepts set under a grey sky. Professionals typically use this asset to provide consistent global illumination for daylight scenes where direct sunlight would be undesirable. It pairs effectively with scenes that feature reflective materials like glass or polished concrete, as the diffuse sky provides clean, broad reflections.
