About this asset

This 2K high-dynamic-range environment map provides overcast daylight illumination for rendering engines, featuring diffuse cloud cover. This HDRI environment map captures a flat, overcast sky, ideal for achieving soft, shadowless, and diffused lighting conditions in architectural visualisations. The map provides a neutral, cool-toned ambient light, essential for simulating grey, cloudy days without harsh direct sunlight. Its 2K resolution is sufficient for background environments and reliable reflection mapping on matte or semi-gloss surfaces. The image includes a consistent light profile across the entire dome, ensuring that global illumination remains uniform throughout a 3D scene, making it a reliable utility for exterior architectural renders where soft, even lighting is required.

The download is a 5.5 MB compressed archive containing a 2K equirectangular high-dynamic-range environment map, ready to load as dome or world lighting in Blender, 3ds Max, SketchUp renderers, Unreal Engine and D5.

Load this 2K map directly into the environment or world lighting slot of your preferred rendering engine. Because it is a high-dynamic-range file, it will naturally drive the global illumination and reflection intensities in your scene. Adjust the exposure or rotation within your software to align the sky with your camera view, and use the map as the primary light source to ensure reflections accurately match the ambient sky conditions.

This sky is particularly effective for architectural projects that require a realistic, muted, and overcast aesthetic, such as northern European residential developments or moody, atmospheric landscape scenes. It pairs well with exterior materials like raw concrete, grey stone, or weathered timber, where harsh shadows would distract from the materiality. Professionals often use this type of environment map for grey-day exterior visualisations, facade studies, and urban planning presentations where consistent, soft lighting allows for clear material definition without the complexity of dynamic sun rigs.
