Misty Overcast Sky HDRI Environment Map

This misty overcast sky HDRI environment map provides soft, diffused lighting and natural reflections for high-quality architectural renders. The environment map captures a uniform, overcast day with a high degree of atmospheric haze. The light source is a soft, non-directional glow filtered through thick cloud cover, resulting in minimal shadow contrast and a neutral, cool-toned colour palette. This file provides a consistent, ambient illumination suitable for scenes requiring a calm, muted aesthetic. It is free from horizon-level obstructions, ensuring a clean, seamless background for both interior and exterior architectural visualisations. The high dynamic range ensures that the subtle gradients of the sky remain smooth and free of banding.

The download is a 4.3 MB file containing a 2K equirectangular high-dynamic-range environment map, ready to load as dome or world lighting in Blender, 3ds Max, SketchUp renderers, Unreal Engine and D5.

To integrate this file, load the equirectangular HDR image into the environment slot of your chosen rendering engine, such as V-Ray, Corona, or Octane. Because the lighting is inherently soft and diffused, it works effectively as a primary light source for interior scenes, or as a background plate to provide realistic reflections on glass and metallic surfaces. Adjust the exposure and white balance within your render settings to fine-tune the intensity of the ambient light to suit the scale of your project.

This environment map is ideal for projects where a moody, atmospheric, or overcast look is desired, such as residential interiors or hospitality spaces. It pairs exceptionally well with minimalist design schemes or architectural projects that feature large glass facades, as the soft light prevents harsh highlights. Professionals often use this when simulating morning or late afternoon conditions without the sharp shadows of direct sunlight. It is a versatile tool for architectural visualisers seeking a neutral, natural light source for realistic, high-fidelity rendering workflows.
