About this asset

This HDRI environment map provides soft, overcast morning lighting with a misty hilltop backdrop for realistic 3D scene illumination. The Kloofendal Misty Morning HDRI captures a natural, high-latitude hilltop environment shrouded in thin fog. The lighting profile is defined by diffuse, low-contrast illumination, producing soft shadows and cool, neutral sky tones. The ground plane features rugged stone formations and sparse, low-lying vegetation characteristic of arid, rocky terrain. This equirectangular image provides a full 360-degree field of view, maintaining consistent exposure across the horizon. Its muted colour palette and atmospheric depth make it an effective choice for creating overcast, early-day lighting conditions without the harshness of direct sunlight.

The download is a 5.6 MB file containing a 2K equirectangular high-dynamic-range environment map, ready to load as dome or world lighting in Blender, 3ds Max, SketchUp renderers, Unreal Engine and D5.

To integrate this file, load the.hdr map into your renderer’s environment or world lighting slot. Adjust the rotation to align the primary light source with your scene requirements. Because the lighting is inherently diffuse, it serves well as a base for secondary light sources or as a standalone ambient light. Ensure your project settings are configured for high-dynamic-range input to take full advantage of the luminosity data embedded within the file, allowing for accurate reflection and shadow rendering.

This environment map is suited for exterior architectural visualisations requiring a quiet, moody, or early-morning aesthetic. It performs effectively in residential projects set within natural or rural landscapes, providing a realistic sky and ground reflection. Professionals often use this asset when aiming for subtle, overcast lighting that avoids the distraction of high-intensity sun flares. It pairs well with landscape-heavy scenes, such as hillside estates or wilderness retreats, where a soft, atmospheric quality is essential for achieving a convincing sense of place.
