About this asset

This equirectangular HDRI map provides a soft, partly cloudy midday sky for realistic natural lighting in 3D rendering projects. The environment map captures a diffused, overcast-leaning midday sky characterized by soft, low-contrast illumination. It features a blend of light blue tones and varied cloud formations, ranging from thin, wispy high-altitude clouds to denser, darker patches that suggest a gentle, natural atmosphere. The horizon line is soft and hazy, preventing harsh light transitions and ensuring seamless integration into exterior scenes. This HDR file delivers consistent, neutral ambient lighting, making it an effective tool for achieving realistic daylighting without the complexity of sharp, direct sunlight or high-contrast shadows.

The download is a 4.8 MB file containing a 2K equirectangular high-dynamic-range environment map, ready to load as dome or world lighting in Blender, 3ds Max, SketchUp renderers, Unreal Engine and D5.

To integrate this environment map, load the HDR file into your rendering engine's world or environment lighting slot. Because it is an equirectangular projection, it will map automatically to the spherical sky dome. Adjust the intensity and rotation settings to align the soft light breaks with your scene's composition. For best results, use this map as your primary light source to maintain natural, diffuse shadows and clean, realistic reflections on all surfaces within your 3D environment.

This HDRI is well-suited for architectural exterior visualisations, particularly for projects set in rural, agricultural, or expansive suburban landscapes. It works effectively for daylight scenes where a calm, overcast aesthetic is required to avoid over-exposed renders. Professionals will find this useful for site-specific studies where soft, natural light is needed to highlight building materials without intense sunlight interference. It pairs well with landscape-heavy models, rural housing, or any project requiring a neutral, balanced sky that provides realistic ambient lighting and soft, diffuse shadows.
