About this asset

This 2K high-dynamic-range environment map provides realistic overcast evening lighting for architectural exterior visualisations. This HDRI environment map captures a moody, overcast evening sky over a flat rural landscape. The image features a wide horizon line with a soft, diffused light quality typical of late-day cloud cover. The dynamic range is sufficient to provide accurate ambient lighting and soft shadows in 3D scenes without requiring additional artificial light sources. The inclusion of reference spheres in the preview demonstrates the map's ability to maintain consistent reflection and diffuse values, ensuring that materials respond correctly to the surrounding environment. It is a neutral, balanced background for exterior architectural projects.

The download is a 9.2 MB compressed archive containing a 2K equirectangular high-dynamic-range environment map, ready to load as dome or world lighting in Blender, 3ds Max, SketchUp renderers, Unreal Engine and D5.

To use this HDRI, load the file into the environment slot of your chosen rendering engine, such as V-Ray, Corona, or Octane. Adjust the rotation to align the horizon line with your project's geography and modify the exposure settings to achieve the desired brightness levels. Because the light and reflections are generated from the same source, you can achieve coherent lighting without needing a complex multi-light rig, which significantly streamlines the rendering setup process for exterior scenes.

This environment is well-suited for exterior visualisations where a calm, overcast atmosphere is required to highlight building materials and textures. It pairs effectively with modern residential designs or rural architectural projects that benefit from soft, non-directional light. Professionals often search for this type of asset when they need to avoid harsh sun shadows and prefer a more muted, atmospheric look. It serves as a reliable backdrop for site-specific renderings, providing a realistic context that integrates seamlessly with landscape elements and vegetation.
