The 14-story hospital tower at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago is a landmark of patient-centric design, known for its distinctive "butterfly" plan shape. Designed by Perkins&Will, this geometry minimizes walking distances for staff and maximizes natural light for patient rooms. The facility was designed with surge capacity in mind, capable of handling large-scale health events like pandemics, and was the largest new construction healthcare project in the world to receive LEED Gold certification at its opening.
