About this asset

This collection of high-dynamic-range sky environment maps provides realistic natural lighting and reflections for SketchUp scenes. The collection features 50 distinct sky environment maps, capturing various atmospheric conditions from early morning through midday to late evening. These high-resolution files provide a full 360-degree dome of natural light, encompassing a range of cloud formations, solar angles, and sky colours. Each map is engineered to deliver accurate luminance values, ensuring that shadows, highlights, and global illumination within a 3D environment remain consistent with the depicted time of day. The variety allows for precise control over the mood and light quality of architectural visualisations across different project phases.

The download is a 2114 MB compressed archive containing the native SketchUp (.skp) model. It opens directly in SketchUp; for 3ds Max, Blender or Cinema 4D, import it through a SketchUp importer or convert it first.

To integrate these maps, load the desired HDRI file into the environment slot of your rendering engine within SketchUp. Ensure the mapping is set to spherical for proper projection around the scene. Adjust the rotation to align the sun position with your model's orientation, and fine-tune the exposure settings to achieve the required brightness levels. These maps serve as both the primary light source and the background, ensuring reflections on glass and reflective surfaces remain physically accurate.

These sky environments are essential for exterior visualisations, daylight studies, and high-end architectural renders where natural lighting is paramount. They are suitable for residential, hospitality, and landscape projects, providing a quick way to establish realistic daylighting without manual light placement. Professionals use these to test how morning, afternoon, and golden hour light interacts with building facades, glazing, and outdoor spaces. They pair effectively with any project requiring authentic sky conditions, from urban streetscapes to sprawling garden developments and terrace designs.
