Overcast Sky HDRI Environment Map, Midday Overcast

This equirectangular HDRI environment map provides soft, diffused natural lighting from a uniform, overcast midday sky. The environment map features a neutral, high-bit-depth overcast sky characterized by soft, diffused light and minimal directional shadows. The horizon line is clean and unobstructed, transitioning smoothly from a subtle, hazy ground plane to a dense layer of grey cloud cover. Its uniform luminance profile makes it ideal for achieving realistic, shadowless global illumination in architectural renders. The lack of distinct sun highlights or high-contrast hotspots ensures that reflections on glass or metallic surfaces remain muted and natural, preserving the integrity of the scene's primary light sources.

The download is a 4.1 MB file containing a 2K equirectangular high-dynamic-range environment map, ready to load as dome or world lighting in Blender, 3ds Max, SketchUp renderers, Unreal Engine and D5.

Load this.hdr file into the environment or world lighting slot of your preferred 3D rendering engine. Because it is equirectangular, the map will automatically wrap around the scene, providing accurate 360-degree reflections and ambient lighting. Adjust the exposure or intensity values within your software to match the light levels of your specific project. This map is particularly effective when used as a base for interior scenes that require consistent, soft, and realistic ambient occlusion or indirect lighting.

This HDRI is suited for architectural visualisations that require a calm, atmospheric, or moody aesthetic, such as rainy days or overcast weather conditions. It is frequently employed in residential and commercial projects where harsh sunlight is undesirable, helping to create soft, even lighting across interior spaces or exterior site contexts. Professionals looking for neutral background plates or subtle, realistic reflection maps will find this asset versatile for rendering glass curtain walls, automotive models, or complex interior spaces requiring high-quality, non-distracting environmental lighting.
