About this asset

This high-dynamic-range environment map provides realistic sunset lighting for 3D scenes, featuring a rugged coastal hilltop vista. Captured at a high-elevation coastal location, this environment map depicts a expansive rocky landscape at sunset. The scene includes weathered stone formations and low-lying coastal vegetation, illuminated by the warm, low-angle light of a setting sun. The composition features a clear, deep blue sky transitioning into soft, warm light near the horizon, with distant mountain silhouettes providing depth. This unclipped HDRI retains high-contrast data, ensuring accurate light distribution, warm rim highlights, and long, realistic shadows across any 3D geometry placed within the virtual environment.

The download is a 6.1 MB file containing a 2K equirectangular high-dynamic-range environment map, ready to load as dome or world lighting in Blender, 3ds Max, SketchUp renderers, Unreal Engine and D5.

To integrate this environment into a rendering workflow, load the file into the environment slot of your chosen renderer. Adjust the rotation to align the sunset with the primary light source of your scene to ensure consistent shadow direction. Because the file contains high-dynamic-range data, you can adjust the exposure and white balance within the renderer settings to achieve the desired mood, effectively using it as both a background plate and the primary light source for reflections and global illumination.

This environment is well-suited for exterior architectural visualisations, landscape design presentations, and cinematic product placement shots that require natural, high-contrast outdoor lighting. It pairs effectively with scenes involving rugged terrains, coastal residential architecture, or outdoor furniture sets. Professionals typically search for this asset when creating atmospheric golden hour renderings, requiring authentic sunlight patterns for realistic shadow casting. It is a versatile tool for establishing a sense of place in large-scale exterior projects, specifically when the design intent demands a dramatic, naturalistic coastal setting.
