About this asset

This SketchUp model provides a set of six rectangular gabion baskets featuring various stone infills and steel wire mesh cages. The set includes six distinct gabion units, each defined by a rigid steel wire mesh cage filled with different types of stone aggregate. The infills vary significantly, ranging from large, irregular natural river stones and weathered boulders to uniform, rectangular-cut stone blocks. Each basket maintains a clean, modular rectangular geometry, suitable for stacking or linear arrangement. The wire mesh is rendered with a precise grid pattern, creating a clear visual contrast against the organic, textured appearance of the stone interiors, which provide a realistic representation of common site-retaining materials.

The download is a 32.1 MB compressed archive containing the native SketchUp (.skp) model holding 6 separate objects. It opens directly in SketchUp; for 3ds Max, Blender or Cinema 4D, import it through a SketchUp importer or convert it first.

Users can import these components into SketchUp as individual groups or components. Because they are modular, they are easily aligned to create continuous retaining walls or decorative site barriers. Adjusting the scale of these elements is straightforward within the native environment, while the material textures can be modified using the paint bucket tool to better suit specific project requirements. Ensure these are placed on a dedicated layer for better scene management when building complex landscape environments.

These gabion structures are ideal for landscape architecture projects, particularly when modelling retaining walls, garden boundaries, or decorative exterior features. They are frequently used in urban design, residential garden layouts, and industrial site planning to provide both structural support and visual texture. Professionals looking for modular landscape elements will find these useful for creating realistic site sections and 3D terrain visualisations. They pair effectively with concrete paving, timber decking, and various planting schemes in outdoor design contexts.
