Minimalist Black Timber Floating Staircase with Glass Balustrade

This minimalist floating staircase in SketchUp features black timber treads and a clear glass balustrade for a clean, modern aesthetic. This floating staircase configuration prioritises structural lightness and material contrast. The design consists of cantilevered, solid black timber treads that appear to emerge directly from the wall, creating a clean, seamless profile. A frameless glass balustrade provides safety without obstructing the visual flow, reinforcing the minimalist intent. The base of the stair transitions into a wider platform or landing, finished in the same dark timber as the treads. The overall geometry is precise, focusing on sharp, clean lines and a monochromatic palette that integrates well with contemporary interior architectural schemes.

The download is a 60.1 MB compressed archive containing the native SketchUp (.skp) model. It opens directly in SketchUp; for 3ds Max, Blender or Cinema 4D, import it through a SketchUp importer or convert it first.

When incorporating this staircase into a SketchUp project, ensure it is placed on a dedicated layer or tag to manage visibility independently of the main floor plan. Users should verify the stair height and tread count against their specific floor-to-floor requirements, as scaling may be necessary. Apply high-quality wood grain textures to the treads to enhance realism, and utilise transparent material settings for the glass balustrade to maintain the intended visual lightness within the render.

This staircase is ideal for high-end residential projects, boutique hotel lobbies, or modern office reception areas where a sculptural architectural feature is required. It pairs effectively with minimalist interior designs, dark-toned flooring, and integrated LED lighting solutions. Professionals searching for a contemporary floating stair solution will find this model suitable for concept design through to detailed development phases. It serves as a strong focal point in open-plan living spaces, particularly when positioned against a plain, light-coloured feature wall.
