University of Maine at Augusta

The University of Maine at Augusta (UMA) offers Maine's sole professional Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) degree, also the only public 5-year professional program in northern New England. Its mission, 'Architecture through Engagement,' promotes a hands-on, integrated learning experience where students actively interact with coursework, peers, and community partners. The design-focused curriculum blends essential design tools with building technology and sustainability, aiming to cultivate lifelong learners who contribute meaningfully to their communities and the architectural field. UMA’s vision positions architecture as a humanistic and professional discipline, synthesizing art, science, creativity, and mathematics. This involves an academic exploration of how designed environments influence psychological and social behavior, while upholding keen aesthetic judgment and a robust technical understanding of building construction and systems. The program emphasizes teaching, scholarship, creative work, research, and community service.
