Provides specialist postgraduate training in urban design for those who already hold a first degree in architecture. Design work operates between body, building, city and metropolitan scales.

Offers expertise across architectural conservation, history, theory and criticism, digital media and design, and technology, environment and sustainability. The PhD program comprises research under the supervision of an expert culminating in a thesis.

The PhD Architecture by Design programme is intended for graduates who wish to pursue a rigorous, in-depth study of a specific topic where design methods familiar to architectural practice (such as drawing, surveying, modelling) are developed as research methodologies. This programme will support you as you develop an awareness of the methods and theoretical frameworks that shape the ways in which architects (as practitioners and researchers) engage with contemporary concerns.
