About The Berlage

The Berlage Center for Advanced Studies in Architecture and Urban Design, an initiative of the Delft University of Technology (TU Delft), educates architects in a highly collaborative and experimental setting. Founded in 1990 as the Berlage Institute, it offers an accredited, three-semester, English-language post-master program. The program is designed for students seeking an intense educational environment to improve their scholarly and research skills, as well as critical thinking abilities. It focuses on cross-cultural research and design, exploring innovative architectural and urban models for a more socially and culturally sustainable global future. Students engage in design-based research projects, proseminars, fieldwork, and master classes, fostering new forms of architectural thinking and alternative design project definitions.

Requirements

0: Master's degree equivalent to a Dutch MSc degree in a main subject closely related to the post-master's program (or a five-year professional bachelor's equivalent, or a four-year bachelor's with proof of qualification/registration to practice architecture and minimum two years of work experience).

1: Excellent study results (e.g., top 10% of previous master's program).

2: Proof of English proficiency: TOEFL (min 22 in each section, overall 100 iBT) OR IELTS (min 6.5 in each section, overall 7.0) OR University of Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency/Advanced English. Exemptions for nationals/graduates from specific English-speaking countries.

3: Application Documents: Copy of degree, transcript, official English proficiency test, personal position statement (2000-3000 words), recommendation letters (sent directly), proof of identity (passport copy), extensive curriculum vitae, self-introduction video.
