National Quemoy University

The Department of Architecture at National Quemoy University, established in 2005, aims to cultivate architectural and urbanism professionals for East and Southeast Asia. It offers a five-year undergraduate B.Arch and a two-to-four-year M.Arch program focusing on architectural practices, sustainability, planning, history, and criticism. Situated on Kinmen Island (historically Quemoy), the department benefits from a unique environment rich in traditional settlements, military engineering, historical buildings, and diverse sociology and anthropology. This island setting serves as a practical laboratory for students and lecturers to explore spatial, construction, technological, and social ideas in collaboration with public and private sectors. The department fosters international cooperation, including design workshops with Xiamen University and exchange programs with universities in Xiamen, Nanjing, and Sichuan. Annual workshops and seminars involve professionals from Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Japan, and the Czech Republic, discussing urban regeneration and heritage conservation. The faculty is also building connections with Korea University and the University of Malaya, ensuring students are trained as well-rounded architects.
