About Marymount College of Fordham University

Longstanding Jesuit private school known for its liberal arts & law programs & Bronx main campus. Marymount College of Fordham University, located at 100 Marymount Avenue in Tarrytown, New York, was a private Roman Catholic women's liberal arts college. Founded in 1907 by Mother Marie Joseph Butler, it began granting baccalaureate degrees in 1924 and was the first women's college in the U.S. to offer a study abroad program. Facing financial challenges and declining enrollment, Marymount College merged with Fordham University in December 2000, becoming Marymount College of Fordham University. Despite initial hopes for its continuation, Fordham's Board of Trustees decided to close the college in October 2005 due to ongoing fiscal pressures. The last class graduated in 2007, and the campus was sold in February 2008 to EF Education First. There is no active architecture school at this former institution.
