About Katharine Gibbs School New York

Katharine Gibbs School New York was part of a network of proprietary, for-profit career colleges founded in 1911 by Katharine Gibbs, specializing initially in secretarial training for women. Over the decades, the curriculum evolved to include a broader range of certificate and associate degree programs in fields like business administration, computer networking, criminal justice, digital filmmaking & multimedia, digital media communications, fashion design and merchandising, hotel and restaurant management, office administration, visual communications, word processing, and healthcare administration. The school aimed to provide practical training for successful careers, emphasizing high standards and professionalism. It was known for its rigorous training and preparing graduates for executive secretarial positions. The New York City campus, among others, eventually ceased operations, with all branches closing by 2009-2011 after a failed effort to sell the franchise.
