John Carroll University

John Carroll University (JCU) is a private Jesuit university located in University Heights, Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland. Established in 1886 as St. Ignatius College, it was renamed in 1923 for John Carroll, the first Catholic bishop in the United States. JCU is primarily an undergraduate, liberal arts institution with approximately 3,900 undergraduate and graduate students enrolled for the 2025–2026 academic year. The university is composed of three colleges: the College of Arts and Sciences, the Boler College of Business, and the College of Health. JCU challenges students to advocate for justice and work toward being better people, emphasizing critical thinking and active learning. The campus spans 65 acres and features a Collegiate Gothic architectural style. The university offers various academic programs in its colleges but does not appear to have an architecture school or specific architecture programs.
