About Jnanapravaha

Jnanapravaha Mumbai (JPM) is a para-academic institute offering public programmes and postgraduate courses in the history of aesthetics, critical theory, art criticism, and writing style. The institute brings scholars from India and abroad to teach students and the public, and to develop and share new work in conferences and workshops. JPM is committed to rigorous pedagogy, research, reading, and writing. Its aesthetics section includes postgraduate diploma and certificate courses in Indian Aesthetics, Southeast Asian Art and Architecture, Yoga and Tantra, Islamic Aesthetics, and Buddhist Aesthetics. The Criticism and Theory section offers certificate courses in Aesthetics, Criticism and Theory, and seminars in Indian Intellectual Traditions. JPM also offers additional programming for students and the public under rubrics such as Creative Practices, Curatorial Processes, and Community Engagement. It publishes a Quarterly including institute, course, and public programme reports, announcements, long-form essays, and student scholarship. Founded in 2007 by Dr. Rashmi Poddar in Mumbai's historic Fort district, JPM is located in Queen's Mansion, a heritage building. The facilities include a classically conserved lecture hall, offices, reading room, and a library with unique holdings in art history, critical theory, and the humanities and social sciences.
