About Global Design at New York University

Global Design New York University promotes innovative design practices as they relate to visionary architecture, urbanism, and ecological planning. GDNYU hosts exhibitions, symposia, workshops, and lecture series to educate students, practitioners, and the general public. GDNYU is founded and directed by NYU Faculty. The initiative aims to develop a language of design that can create productive relationships between local problems, individual accountability, and the urgent environmental challenges posed by global warming. It explores ways in which design can reformat the unfortunate separation between human society and the natural world. The program also acknowledges the increasing complexity of building in an interconnected world, where architects and designers often engage with big business, politics, and the finance industry. It hopes that the design process, with its emphasis on research, innovation, and experimentation, can bring its methodology and rigor to these determinants of built form.
