About Damascus University

The Faculty of Architecture at Damascus University, established as an independent faculty in 1982, evolved from its origins within the Faculty of Fine Arts (1963) and subsequently the Faculty of Engineering (1970). Located on the Baramkeh Campus in Damascus, it enjoys a prominent position overlooking Ommayad Square, in proximity to national museums and art galleries. The modernist building, designed by Borhan Tayara, is notable for its use of reinforced concrete, sandblasted concrete facades, and aluminum elements. It features a central atrium, with studios designed to accommodate 15 students each, emphasizing natural lighting and cross-ventilation for an optimal learning environment. The faculty's core objectives include delivering advanced knowledge in architecture and urban planning, actively engaging in scientific research, continuously developing innovative teaching methodologies, and cultivating strong student awareness of architectural and urban issues. The faculty currently enrolls over 600 students, preparing them for professional careers in architecture and urban planning.
