The Centre d'Études Supérieures de la Renaissance (CESR), established in 1956 in Tours, France, stands as a preeminent institution dedicated to the study of the European Renaissance, from Petrarch to Descartes. As a research and training center under the joint supervision of the University of Tours, the CNRS, and the Ministry of Culture, CESR holds a unique dual status, functioning both as a University Research and Training Unit (UFR) and a Joint Research Unit (UMR 7323).
