About Bicol University Department of Architecture

The Bachelor of Science in Architecture program at Bicol University was established in 1977, having since produced over 300 architects working both locally and internationally. It has evolved into a leading regional institution for baccalaureate architecture programs. The dedicated Architecture Building was completed in 1997. In November 2014, the program gained administrative and supervisory autonomy, transforming into the Bicol University Institute of Architecture (BUIA), separate from the College of Engineering. It was later renamed the Bicol University Institute of Design and Architecture (BUIDeA) in March 2021, reflecting an expansion into broader design disciplines. BUIDeA currently offers Bachelor of Science in Architecture, a Master in Architecture program, and plans for new academic programs in Planning and Design. The undergraduate program focuses on Heritage Conservation and architectural design addressing climate change, while the Master's program specializes in Physical Planning. As of SY 2020, BUIDeA serves approximately 600 undergraduate students and nearly 50 master's students.
