The Aga Khan University's Karachi campus, conceived in 1970 and completed in 1985, stands as a testament to architectural harmony, blending modern technologies with the spirit of Islamic culture. Designed as an integrated complex of buildings and landscaped courtyards, the 84-acre campus fosters a continuous flow between interior and exterior spaces. Fountains, lush landscaping, and water features enhance the environment, creating a microclimate that offers respite from Karachi's climate. This design reflects a commitment to creating spaces for contemplation and community, prefiguring the healing gardens prevalent in contemporary hospital design. The architectural vocabulary’s consistency ensures the seamless integration of subsequent additions, demonstrating the graceful aging of buildings and vegetation.
