Umbau School of Architecture

The Bachelor of Architecture is an undergraduate five-year degree for students coming directly from high school, preparing students for leadership in the profession of architecture and urban design. It is the oldest professional degree offered at the university level in the United States.

The Master of Architecture program is designed for students with a four-year pre-professional undergraduate architecture degree or a four-year undergraduate degree in a field other than architecture. It aims to provide a solid foundation in architectural history, theory, and technology, fostering innovation.

The Master of Landscape Architecture program prepares students to address challenges of climate change and environmental injustice through landscape design and planning. The program caters to a range of backgrounds, offering a 3-year option for those without prior experience and a 2-year option for those with a BLA or B.Arch.

This program focuses on solving problems to improve the way people live, work and play by combining materials, lighting, colors, furnishings and other design elements to create functional and beautiful spaces. Intensive design studios provide practice designing for real-world clients.

The Master of Urban Design program provides students with urban design skills that can be immediately practiced after graduation. Graduates gain the knowledge and skills to create sustainable, equitable, and prosperous urban spaces.

The Ph.D. in Architecture program focuses on the development of modern architectural form and ideas, and the relations between the profession, practice, civil institutions, and the society at large. It is oriented toward training scholars in architectural history and theory.
