About Architectural Monument Conservation Institute

The Center for Architectural Conservation (CAC), housed within the Architectural Conservation Laboratory (ACL) at the University of Pennsylvania's Stuart Weitzman School of Design, was founded in 1991. It provides a unique intellectual environment for advanced study in architectural conservation and building technology. The Center promotes cross-disciplinary collaboration on contemporary issues related to the conservation of culturally significant buildings, monuments, and sites globally, with an emphasis on sustainability. Its comprehensive agenda includes research and teaching in documentation, recording, field survey, material analysis, condition assessment, risk analysis, and the development and evaluation of new treatments for historic structures. The ACL also serves as a graduate training and research hub, offering cutting-edge equipment and a vast collection of historic building materials.
