Western State College

The Design program at Western Colorado University examines design in its fullest understanding, including architecture, furniture, applied arts, and graphic design. Students explore the history and evolution of design from its origins to the present, analyzing the discipline of graphic design within its historical, cultural, and political framework. The program fosters responsible citizens and stewards of aesthetic, ethical, social, economic and environmental concerns. The curriculum combines lecture courses and studio instruction, building upon studios where students solve design problems at interrelated scales. Students gain specialized skills necessary for pre-professional work.
