About Marygrove College

Marygrove College was a private Catholic institution in Detroit, Michigan, founded in 1905 by the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. It was known for its progressive education, prioritizing service, social justice, and urban leadership, particularly nurturing African-American women leaders in teaching and social work. The college closed its undergraduate programs in 2017 and permanently ceased operations in December 2019 due to financial difficulties. Its 53-acre campus is now managed by the Marygrove Conservancy, a nonprofit established in 2018. The conservancy stewards the campus as a P-20 (cradle-to-career) educational hub, featuring partnerships with Detroit Public Schools Community District and the University of Michigan School of Education. Recent developments include an Early Childhood Education Center and renovations of historic buildings.
