Fullerton College

Fullerton College, established in 1913, stands as California's oldest continuously operating community college, a legacy etched in its unique Hispano-Moresque architecture. Master landscape architect Ralph D. Cornell, drawing inspiration from Thomas Jefferson's University of Virginia, designed the formal campus layout. The original buildings showcase a distinctive blend of Spanish and Moorish elements, a vision brought to life by resident architect Vaughn. The campus's historic core, featuring rectangular classrooms and administrative buildings arranged around a central library, exudes academic tradition. A defining architectural element is the lavish use of colorful Tunisian/Moorish ceramic tiles, adorning domed cupolas, archways, and interiors, creating a vibrant contrast against the simple white textured walls. These tiles, produced by D. and M. Tile in Los Angeles, add a unique Moorish flair. The college's architecture fosters a sense of community, mirroring its mission to provide accessible and inclusive learning environment.
